We had a lot of trouble trying to find out the story with this whisky. We've seen bottles on random (like, completely random) U.S. liquor store shelves, and this shape of bottle seems to be old stock, as semi-confirmed by the semi-coherent store owners we spoke with. There is also a newer, overseas, different bottling of "Super Nikka" that's not this one. As much as we can tell, this isn't distributed in the US currently, although it is available overseas... which confuses us more. Hey, we can't know everything. Please send us better info if you've got it.
I kinda like it, yet there's something kinda chemically to the whisky. Overall, this is a caramel and cinnamon number, with vanilla -- there's a whole lotta blendy stuff that tastes like this. And I'll never truly understand why. Later I'm told it's peated, but it doesn't seem to be more than 2-3 ppm, as I detected none (maybe that's what that industrial/chemical note was). I find it drinkable, yet sorta blecchy, and doesn't quite reach the status of "I'd be happy to find this on an airplane."
