Nose:  Peat and ocean breeze, burnt sugar.

Palate:  Sweet, then malty with peat in the background.

Finish:  light peat notes.

Balanced and complex, much different in character from the more recent 16 year olds.

This was really interesting to taste side by side with the current (2012) 16yr. I found the White Horse to be memorable, complex, smooth and oily....compared to this year's 16, which next to the WH, was rough, hearty, nutty, confused. The 1990 bottle is like the older sister that attended cotillion. 

Elegance has always had it's merits, but I also roughing it quite a bit. I give this bottle an edge over the current year, due to a longer finish and more complex, balanced palate. 

N: Light hint of citrus, faintly rubbery. 

P: Wood influence with peat, lightly astringent. Somewhat malty.

F: Light smoke and ruber.

Good but not amazing. I thought this was less sharp than modern bottlings - more earthy.
