Ardbeggy nose (which is a distinctly musty overtone, mainly) and clove. On the palate is a sweet explosion of -- of yum. Peat, clove hints, which are still in the background as it finishes.  A-

RETASTE: Just mild, smooth, pleasant sweet peat.  Nothing to shout about.  B

Very medicinal nose.  Short on the palate and short in the finish.  Iodine.  Short but good.

Nose is comparatively light for a whisky of this type.  Iodine.  Palate of nice smoke and peat.  Sweetness emerges in the finish.  Smooth.  B+

Retaste June 2010:   This is a very elegant and light bodied Ardbeg, still has lots of spicy sugary peat without being oily.   Sparkly is the work that comes to mind.   Ardbeg 1977, the sparkly Ardbeg.  (Yeah, no marketing job for me).  Upgraded to A-

Nose of iodine and clove.  Somewhat lush mouthfeel, very nice.  Hot hot finish, but rolls along nicely.

Kind of fiery on the tongue and smokier on the finish.  High, spicy notes, with a bang.  I don't love the finish... alcohol-y.

AWESOMELY GOOD.

Andy

Flat peat in the nose.  No smoke.  A little medicinal.
JS

Yummy Ardbeg as you would expect.  But not as exceptional as I hoped.

Nose is very trademark Ardbeg with sweet smoke and peat.  Palate starts with the smoke, which yields to sweetness and wine.  A standard Ardbeg is a very good Ardbeg and I'll rate it as such, but it doesn't particularly stand out from what is a very good pack in a way that would justify the price.

N: Peaty with cloves and eucalyptus.
P: Briney with ferric notes
F: Asphalt

Retast 2013:  B

Grassy, black peppers and oolong tea.  Nice oily texture with licorice and fudge.  Sea salt finish.   I didnt recall tasting this previously.  But it was given the same grade.

Retaste 2015: B+

Big spice with warm plastic notes.  Oily mouthfeel orange zest, smoke and ash
