Single Grain Scotch Whisky

A It was time to dedicate an evening to the very stuff that generally makes the blends... well, not single malts.  So with the best intentions and high hopes, LAWS tracked down (via P.G. JW) some of the best and most unique representations of the grain category.  Some proved to be quite drinkable and enjoyable.  But -- although we really did go into this with an open mind -- of the six grain whiskies we tasted, none were really a must-try.  Nevertheless, the experience was a necessary and educational one -- some even found things to enjoy in the "tile scrubber" that was donated gratis to the meeting (read: abandoned).  Meanwhile, Jim McEwan's $300 packaging masterpiece didn't quite live up to the price.  The favorites of the evening were a very sherried Port Dundas and a spicy North British.  But for now, it seems we'll stick with the malts.

JW also came up with another great whiskey game (as a follow up to Famous Whiskey Quotes), this time testing our knowledge of famous songs that mention whiskey/whisky.  Wanna test your musical and alcoholic expertise at the same time?  Click the image and match the lyrics with the corresponding song/artist.
