Dufftown Stands on Seven Stills

The clock tower of Dufftown.Last week, member MCS gave us a fantastic presentation on Dufftown whisky.  Long known as the malt whisky capital of Scotland, Dufftown currently has the most active distilleries of any town in the country.  The only active Dufftown distillery not in the tasting was Kininvie.  We sampled The Singleton of Glendullan 12Balvenie 17 New OakGlenfiddich 30, a Signatory Dufftown 17 year,  a Signatory Mortlach 17 year (all active distilleries), a Gordon & MacPhail Convalmore 21 year (closed), and a Duncan Taylor Rarest of the Rare Pittyvaich 28 year (demolished).

There was no clear favorite, though the Pittyvaich and Mortlach drew some

raves -- all the bottles were very much enjoyed.  And most were impressed with the Glendullan, for the price.

As March 27 was Michael Jackson's birthday, LAWS toasted the late and legendary whisky reviewer as we watched a classic interview from The Malt Project documentary.
