What a meal and what an experience. And the decor is super cool, too. I'm a big fan. To note, this place hasn't even been open a month (as of this writing), and already they've got their act together 99%.
Whiskey-wise, somebody here knows something somewhat decent. Along with a few things you'd expect, I found an Old Malt Cask Rosebank and Duncan Taylor Strathisla, along with distillery bottlings I rarely (read: never) see at restaurants, like Auchentoshan 21, Bruichladdich 18, and a couple Springbanks. Now, the prices on that sort of stuff aren't great, but if you're at this place, you've already decided to open up your wallet. (Note to staff: get some decent whisky glasses, or at least some small tumblers! You're serving $50 pours in a cheap water glass... it's just not as fun that way).
Okay, the food. I don't even want to start to explain it... go to their website and check the menus, and you'll get the idea. Basically, you order a ton of these little mini-plates -- I think I had about 15 or more -- and every single one is a unique delicacy (oh, and they're all 8 bucks across the board, which is interesting). [NOTE: In the first quarter of 2009, the menu was changed from this to a regular-coursed meal, though the mini-portions are still available.] I'm a foodie and I was thoroughly delighted and SURPRISED the whole way through. Go with a group of friends and get drunkenfull.
To note, I've been here a number of times now, and I really enjoy just sitting at the bar, drinking a whisky, and ordering the small tasting portions of lots of things as I go... almost like it were sushi.
By the way, the Lobster Pot Pie (excellent) pairs very well with the Rosbank 22yr OMC.
(NOTE: While the whisky prices are generally too high, the food is priced well given the amazing quality, presentation, and experience).
