This was a single cask bottled exclusively for three whisky aficionados in Montana known as "The Filthy Boys."  Although we feel confident reviewing their whisky, we cannot attest to their level of filth.  Update March 2012: They're actually clean! Nice guys.

Original price around $250.

Classic thick oaky speyside.  Strong but one dimensional.  The finish hits hard but is too much without a bit of water.

Nose of oatmeal, light sherry, vanilla, and present but not overwhelming oak.  The palate is basically a very interesting spice mix, with sweetness well-balanced against it.  In the finish, a little too much bitter wood remains in the tails.  This is certainly good, but I'm not sure I'd qualify it as special... it's a medium-bodied spice critter that's pleasant to drink, and pleasantly chewy.  Eat some bar nuts with this -- they really elevate the flavor, bringing out more dried fruits, sherry, and sweeter notes.  B/B+

RETASTE: Though I've had this on many occasions, lately I've been finding it much more floral than I originally did. It's like a mouthful of flowers. And completely delicious. Not sure if it's oxidation, because I Private Preserve the hell out of all my bottles, and I don't think I've missed this one. Anyhow, upgraded to full B+

Nose is ice cream, very sweet. Palate.  Mmmm. Sweet sorbet, bubble gum. Finish continues with the same light sweet flavors.  Not rich and deep, but some wonderful subtleties.

N: Complex spicy nose, honey, tomato plants, chocolate, nougat.
P: Surprisingly spicy and organic.  Dry.
F: Powdered sugar on french toast.
I've come across a few like this one, my guess is that it was a 2nd or 3rd fill sherry cask, not very active so it takes 38 years to get there, but it does get there.   Doesn't blow you away initially but becomes a favorite over time.

Mellow, sweet, sherry nose. Lots of oak, some pepper, hints of cocoa and sherry. Mid-length nose, chewy, cocoa-ish finish. Solid, but nothing particularly special.

N: Field of flowers, heather, confectioners' sugar and cough syrup
P: Spicy and sweet.
F: Caramel and bitter fruit skins
