Hogshead is a "secret recipe" of vatted single malt scotch whisky, designed by Ed Kohl at Signatory.  Well, not so much a secret, just tricky to find out.  Okay, we'll tell you:  67% 8-year Linkwood, and the rest is 3-year Lagavulin.  (Refers to earlier batches pre-2009)

What the hell is that nose?  All sorts of different wood smells and tastes, hard to separate out any one thing, but all together its actually damn good.

Nose is of peat and wood smoke, and slightly farty. That fartiness often announces bad things to come... but not here! The palate is tasty and great.  Smoky and rich for sure, very tasty. This continues in the medium-length finish. A tasty, smoky, well-priced treat.
Andy

Soft peat, otherwise dull but not bad.

N: Farty, tarry, cured meats, brine, burnt paper and sulphur

P: Charred meats, some cherry sweetness and more sulphur

F: Smoke and salt

Generous B-... because its so affordable.  B-/C+
