Bourye is a blend of two straight rye whiskies and one straight Bourbon, all sourced from undisclosed distilleries.  The components are a 10 year old Four Roses Bourbon (mashbill 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% barley); a 12 year old rye from LDI (mashbill 95% rye and 5% barley) and a 16 year old rye from Barton Distillery (mashbill 53% rye, 37% corn, 10% barley).

The nose is very Bourbon heavy up front, with rye spice kicking in later (keep in mind that while we know the component whiskeys in this vatting, we don't know the proportions of each that are used in the final product).  Not surprisingly, the taste is similar to a high rye-content Bourbon.  The first thing you get is a sweet burst of corn, followed by rye spice and some chewy, oak notes.  The rye takes over in the finish, which goes on and on.  This is really good stuff.  Sipping blind, I would guess this was a very good high-rye content Bourbon with some age on it, which is probably more or less what it is.

N: A delight. Woody and rich, some toffee and vanilla, nice spice and a bready quality. An interplay of sweet and spicy that's really pleasant. A mild prickle; lightly bubblegummy; leather richness.

P: Medium heat, excellent moderated sweetness carried in from the nose. Warms slowly and gently, with grain, wood, light spice, bubblegum, cherry notes all nicely in balance. Syrupy and thick mouthfeel but not gloppy.

F: Smooth, warming, with grains and sweetness coming through. Lasting but not spicy, with a slight apple waxiness, moderated wood and grain.

Fun and enjoyable. Nuance and interplay among the flavors, well integrated despite the various elements. Finish lasts and it's just a hell of a great whiskey.

n: oaky, soft nose with a hint of mint. Alcohol, waxy white chocolate, and old wood paneling.

t: Initial is corn sweetness with a nice spearmint and vanilla middle. This is a cohesive and well-balanced whiskey. The rye shows in the finish with some black pepper and pickle brine. It's supple and semi-sweet.  [B., batch 1]
