I started a night off with a deep pour of this, and I gotta say, I liked it a lot more than a scotch snob would care to admit he likes a young mystery malt.

Sweet nose, ashey, with iodine and car exhaust. But in a good way of course. Palate is just sweet and smokey and peaty and tasty, and the finish is easy and brings me back for more. Given the name, company, and the flavor, this has to be Lagavulin. At sixty bucks it's cheaper than Lagavulin 16 and higher proof, but then again, current (spring 2018) bottles of Lagavulin 16 are tasting pretty damn good. B+ on this vs. the current Lag 16 which is A-.

I also have a soft spot for Lagavulin, handicap accordingly.
Ries

Meaty and dense. Charred sweet vanilla, hint of spearmint and more oily smoke in the long finish. Deceptively easy to drink, a nice whisky to satisfy. Has maritime peat, spice, and a red berry sweetness. At $50 (K&L Wines) it's an excellent choice!
