The nose has brown sugar and oak followed by earthy almost mushroomy notes. The palate is quite different, sweet first, then quickly acidic, very acidic like it has a squirt of lemon. The acid massively dominates the finish on the palate, but the nose retains the earthy stuff. The acidic notes are so strong they really put the whole thing out of balance and give it a burning sensation that the first batch didn't have, even though the first batch is higher proof. Water helps give it some composure and mutes it a bit but doesn't save it. I definitely would not buy a bottle of this.

n: new leather jacket, lemon polish, white sugar (simple syrup), and fresh cardboard. Has a bit of damp earth and forest.

t: initial is cinnamon butter on dark wheat toast that quickly turns to tangerine peel and gets quite sour and dry. Whole black peppercorns, lemonwax spray, and old plastic. Burnt wood ash and scalded cream of corn in the middle. The sweetness and honey-wheat bread flavours show at the tail end, but that isn't enough to redeem.

Overall very floral and oaky but it doesn't come off very tasty. It's confusing that these PHC8 batches are so different.  [C+/B-]
