Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon 2015
Added on Tuesday, Dec 8, 2015 at 04:15 AM
A mixture of 4 different bourbons, using 3 recipes (out of the 10 Four Roses recipes) at unusually high ages: 16 year-old OBSK, 11 year-old OBSV, 15 year-old OESK, and 14 year-old OESK. To compare, the 2014 edition contained 13 year-old OBSV, 12 year-old OESV, 11 year-old OBSF, and 9 year-old OBSK.
Nose is meh. Some baking spices and usual four roses notes. With air gets a little sweet. Palate has a nice complex spice from start to finish. Creamy and rich (like all the good four roses), but not a show stopper. Texture was my favorite part, but this doesn't live up to the famous Small Batch releases. [12/6/15]
The nose has deep rich caramel with some orange rind and lots of oak. The palate opens with huge caramel, then oak, followed by some tannic notes. The finish picks up anise, rye and some medicinal notes. There is some astringency on the late palate, but it fades with air.
