Wow, what a nose. Rye of course, maple, pine, and caramel. The palate is pretty great -- well-balanced with good warmth. A somewhat chewy rye, with a strong rye character, though not too chewy and not too ryed (does that make sense?). Gingerbread notes. This is an easy drinker while still being very flavorful. (Batch A1062 tasted) B+/A-
Great nose on this. The first whiff of this stuff is Bourbony sweetness, they you get flooded with the strong rye spice. The flavor flips that formula on its head with rye spice in the forefront and a bit of bitterness, followed with some sweetness that lasts into the finish, hand in hand with the bitter. This is a bit less rounded than Buffalo Trace's other ryes and the sweetness and spice feel less integrated, but it gets points for a solid and complex rye flavor. If they could tame the bitter edges, this would be amazing stuff. (Tasted No. A6071)
This is a very warm and lush nose. Great spicy rye notes that arent too spicy as to burn your nostrils. The woody sweetness balances out the spice and I even get some tangerines here. This transfers onto the palate with nice body. Dry wood and caramel sweetness lead to varnishy taste. A litle heat from the rye spice comes through. Finishes pretty dark and slightly bitter. B+/A-
