Nose is port-like, dark berries, chocolate cherries. Palate is raisins and dates, molasses, With water, red cherries, gum drops and red punch. Finish is gum drop candy. Very smooth. Tasted blind among other Glendronachs, I liked it. Kinda preferred the 1968. Perhaps if I had it on its own against some non-sherried whiskies it would stand out more. Still very good.
Nose of sherry, raisins -- actually, it's got a whole raisin-nut-wheat-bread thing going on -- with strong bubblegum. Palate is a sherry bomb. A dryer type of sherry [I was tasting this blind], and this is rather dry overall... that must be due to the excessive oak I taste in here. Spice emerges on the crossover, and when the finish hits cinnamon really emerges, and takes center stage in the tails. Overall this is a decent sherried number, but it needs less wood. After enjoying the 1968 quite a bit some time ago, I'd been contemplating buying this bottle for myself... it's not bad by any means, but having tried it, it's still just something I "might" want to own. B/B+
N: Chocolate covered raisins, rich but not heavy, more on evaporative and ethery side. P: Salty, big old quality sherry, velvety, burnt sugar. About as sherried as a whisky can get without dumping actual sherry into the bottle. F: Long with dried fruits (dates). Very good stuff. Tasted heads up with the Glendronach 1968, it's a little less complex (lacks some of the rubbery notes in the 1968 that I really like) and so A- instead of A, but this is some fine stuff.
This whisky is clearly older than the other Glendronachs I have had. Less sherry on the nose and more spices and quite a lot of cinnamon. A bit more spirity than expected and some nice soft bubblegum in the background. The palate is deep and woodsy like older sherried whisky should be without over-doing it. Less sherry but maybe some Port/fortified wine flavors in there also… Tastes of mahogany wood also. A bit lighter and crisper than the nose gives away. Again, the price tag on this is way out of the ballpark ($350) as I say it is a solid B.
Nose: refined, dry sherry notes. Palate: A very pure, dry sherry flavor, some vanilla, floral and woody notes as well; lots of flavor packed into this, even at 80 proof. Finish: Very fleeting finish with sherry and fruit.
Bitter resinous sherry notes. Old style sherry here. This is dense dark stuff with figs and black raisins. Lots of dry tobacco and cigar leaves. I liked it with water as more earthy herbal notes emerged.
