Nose is bourbony and doesn't smell particularly ryed.  Doesn't quite taste that way either... it's a rather uninteresting, flattened rye flavor.  Someone at this tasting called this "The Schlitz of Ryes" and I agree.  C/C+

A dry, clean, and spicy rye.  Nothing fancy but very enjoyable.  Finish is long and refreshing, like a rye breath mint.  Best rye in this price range, hands down.

The nose is a little like a pleasant mix of bird seed, or grist.  The palette has a slight sweetness, but mostly cereal grain.  The finish is light and crisp.  Simple, but refreshing.  Not a hot, flavorful rye.  But good for $15.

For a rye, there is surprisingly little rye in the nose of Overholt. I get very subtle notes of hay and grass as well as some banana. The flavor surprises me with its initial sweetness. There are a few rye notes if you hold it in your mouth, but you don't get any real rye spice until the finish. It's an odd rye.

NOSE
The first thing I notice is a thick sweet scent like caramel frosting followed up by some notes of graham cracker pie crust, cinnamon and green apples. Round that out with a bit of iodine and a slight but steady rye spice you end up with a nice bouquet that is pleasing, but quite light on the rye notes.

PALATE
The rye spice pops a bit more here and it’s accompanied by a hints of lemon pepper, course grains and some soft woodiness. A strange subversive sweetness runs alongside the spicy peppery fruit and creates a very interesting juxtaposition of flavors.

FINISH
Medium with green apples and graham cracker that fades to sugared oak.
