Distilled March 1984. Bottled June 1996. The authenticity of this bottle is in question. The label is clearly a color copy and even says 750ml despite the fact that this is a miniature. But then if it is fake, why fill it with such delightful whisky?!!! Malt Maniac Peter Silver also rated this a 90, so at least that's consistent. My guess is this was a sample that accompanied a shipment to a retailer and was never really meant to be sold. [Duke]
Nose is indistinct light smoke, solvent, and slight white wine and fruit. The palate is a wonderful, surprise explosion of robust flavors -- mainly spice, with menthol notes, and other fleeting traces of... something. Finish is long and continues the theme. This is fiery and hot, but if that's your thing, and you like these cask-strength non-sherried spice-monsters, then this is for you. Water does open it up and tame the fire. Delicious with a kind of S&M aspect.
N: Ethery and floral, lavender, a lot of depth, nutty. P: Oh, this is good. Very malty and floral. F: Very, very long. This is a very unusual profile for a Clynelish or a 12 year old, it tastes much older and more in line with a floral Port Ellen.
