A 2014 release, Old Pulteney's 35 Year Old is a combination of ex-bourbon American oak and ex-sherry Spanish oak casks, resulting in a rich and indulgent whisky. The box has been created to reflect the distillery's maritime heritage and contains a porthole through which the bottle is visible.

Rich toffee with a musty oak center from old sherry influence. Chewy butterscotch wafer cookie. Vanilla caramels with a note of dried heather. Sophisticated and stately. This has it all for a fine scotch, though I wish this had a higher ABV%. Delightful.   [B+/A-]

NOSE
Sherry, malt, golden raisins, leather, complex orchard fruit, cocoa, Fruit Gems and a bit of ash, spice and butterscotch.

PALATE
Malt, saline, complex orchard fruit, nuts, saline, cherrywood, cocoa, oak, sherry sweetness and some ash, spice and earth.

FINISH
Long -> Nuts, malt, fruit, oak, ash

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Great balance, full body and oily feel.

OVERALL
Nothing dry or tannic about the aroma and the palate has a good amount of sweet paired with the malt and an overall heavy rustic profile. The aroma is surprisingly juicy with a solid malty backbone and the palate shifts gears a bit with more of a roasted malt profile sustained by a complex sweetness. The Old Pulteney 35 comes together so balanced that the only descriptor to really capture its essence… is elegant.

n: Maritime wood.  Planks on an old ship.  Dank.

p:  Spiced wood from the get gom but goes fast.  Salty and unsweet toward the finish with a bit of dark bitter chocolate.  Good, but a bit dry for my sweet tooth.
