N: Classic gym bag, sweaty, buttery organic Port Charlotte peat. Butterscotch alongside, a bourbony quality (dark-fruit-and-caramel plus a touch of tannins), wood and a faint smoke to it.

P: Smoke, buttery organic peat, white and sichuan pepper, wood, black cherry.

F: Smoky, slightly buttery, woody and peppery. Dried fruits on there as well.

Probably the best Port Charlotte I've ever had. Really great.

Burnt toast, charred wood, and lots of BBQ stuff. Smoke and peat notes dominate. Very viscous and sticky on the palate almost like cough syrup. Initial peat attack is followed by some cherry with lingering cinnamon candy on the finish. B/B+

Nose:  Sulfur, ham and other smoked meats.

Palate:  Massive sulfur bomb with peat and maybe some dry sherry notes in the background.

Finish:  The peat comes in on the finish, exclipsing the more sulfuric notes.

This will kick your ass.

Wow, that's a nose. Heavy sherry, stewed fruits, dried fruits, deep and dark. Something sulfurous but not bothersome at all... welcome actually.

Palate is smoke and... woah. Layers and layers revealed over time of variations on BBQ and hickory smoke. Sometimes mysterious, other times angry. Really in-your-face stuff.

What happens is the finish hits, and it just thickens up and LASTS. Like a syrupy, smokey BBQ sauce. Like some of the most intense BBQ I've ever had and loved. Toothbrush required. You need to be in the mood for this, but when you are, there are few things that would otherwise fit the bill.

Delicious charred meat all the way.

Uh oh, when I see a color like that - that deep mysterious syrupy cola darkness, I become a little skeptical. It's either going to be a big complex achievement or it's going to be a confusing overpowering disappointment (of course we all know these aren't actually our only choices, but this tends to be my experience). The Bloodtub definitely weighed heavier on the latter option.

It's not that it was terrible, heck I'm giving it a B+. It's just that, like I said, it's disappointing, because when I see that syrup I hope with all my being that it's going to knock my socks off. Oh well.

The nose was sherry concentrate and sweet bbq sauce. Palate carmalized bbq, cedar. When the sauce starts to trail off in the finish and things calm down a bit, things begin to even out and become quite enjoyable.

You can enjoy a coke and you can enjoy bbq, but drink bbq sauce straight from the bottle or suck on some coke syrup before mixing with water and you've got yourself in a sticky situation.

Rich deep amber color. Salty and sulfur with a lot of sherry and wood. I actually loved the nose. Where this whisky got downgraded by me was on the palate. Just way too much wood. I mean, wow, am I drinking a tree? A- nose, B+ on the palate and overall a B+ [4/19/13]
