N: Light, clean nose with some floral tones. A little white pepper, a bit of wood, some underlying light caramel sweetness. A lightly toasted character comes through too.

P: Moderate mouthfeel, gain leading with an almost toast-like quality. The more familiar lightly floral and slightly spicy notes come through. There's a mellow pine element that comes through after a while, and a slight hint of lemon on the high end. Has moments where it's almost got a cola-like quality.

F: Leading with some black tea tannins, this has again a more substantial, almost bready body to the finish. There's some light sweetness, but it's tempered by a growing bitterness that has a lightly rooty, vegetal character.

As a straight sipper, this is the first Beam product I think I've been pretty happy with. It's less forward and aggressive than other ryes and not as extreme an exercise, but it's a pretty enjoyable even-tempered rye. I'll definitely keep this on hand for mellow sipping and for guests who may not be as fond of in-your-face ryes.

The nose on this is typical of Beam ryes, very light with some banana and some soapy notes. The palate is slightly sweet with little rye character. The initial sweetness fades to that slightly banana flavor, which is really more like an artificial banana candy. There's a sort of sweet candy finish.

Well, what can I say? It's a Beam rye. Those banana notes are similar to what I get in Old Overholt, another Beam rye. This does nothing for me. I've always seen Beam ryes as rye for people who don't really like rye, and this one is no different. If you like Overholt or you liked Rye One, give it a try. Otherwise, stay away.

n: vanilla bean, caramel, Ritz crackers. Oak char, floral, and a yeast note.

t: muted spice of cinnamon and items from a dusty spice cabinet, dried floral flavor. Quite thin mouthfeel that turns to a mineral oil quality towards the end. Short finish with green apple skin and white pepper. Very boubony rye.
