The nose on this is similar to a rye recipe bourbon, sweet and spicy, though there is also a bit of a plastic note. The palate starts off with medicinal notes which yield to a bitterness that lasts into the finish. I have to say this one is not very good. I would never guess that it was oats, but the bitter notes don't do it any favors. Still, it's not horrible. I've had much, much worse, but it's certainly flawed.
Nose is sweeter and inviting, raisins, cotton candy, cinnamon, chicken stock. Palate is kinda nice if not a lot going on. Finish has something sweaty in it near the end, but I kinda like it.
N: Sharply woody initially with a heavily toasted character. There's a bit of vegetal sourness peeking out against it. Some black cherries temper the wood a bit, but eventually reinforce the wood notes. A little bit of corn, some light toffee and a definite oaty presence - more cheerios than oatmeal. It's dry, and eventually softens to gain some light caramel and a touch of marshmallow.
P: Medium thickness, woody entrance with a toasted flavor - intensely woody. Dark fruits in abundance - black cherries, plums, slightly overripe berries. Very light fruity sweetness that's a touch syrupy. Faint vanilla and moderate earthiness, both blunted by wood.
F: Very woody, drying, with the toasted character. Slight bitterness, a little corn; a little vegetal sourness and a dash of pepper. Slightly more bitter vegetal note as it lasts.
Interesting experiment. The nose is just a little too closed off and everything is blunted by the wood. The only thing that can hang with that - the fruit notes - are very dark and it all cries out for something brighter to balance it. Even letting it sit for a while, it opens up a bit but doesn't gain any balance.
