Nose:  Lots of polished wood, some vegetal/tobacco notes.
Palate:  Candy - mint, chocolate, caramel, corn syrup, the red candy coating on candied apples followed by some good rye spice.
Finish:  Sweet corn with rye notes, nicely balanced.

On retaste, I had a significantly better impression so am raising the score, though the notes are largely the same.

N: Spicy and strong, but with a very upfront kick of corn and caramel. Sweet, too - light maple syrup, slight molasses, some oak. A hint of anise and sweeter cherry notes.

P: Moderately thick and rich, with corn in abundance and some dry grains. A caramel sweetness, some strong and untamed oak - not overly woody though, and it doesn't have that "old study" vibe. Cherry, maple syrup, orange and cinnamon. Mild pepper spice as well.

F: Rich - wood and corn with cherries right behind. Wood is full and vital. Finish dries and gets the faintest hint of bitterness.

Big and bold, with a good rye presence. A very easy-drinking, high-proof whiskey. As far as straight up bourbons go (no finish, no gimmick, no backstory), this is close to my ideal on the sweet/caramel side. I tend to prefer the black fruit/vanilla/earthy profile, but this is a great execution of the other side of things. Good wood presence.

A rather herbal nose especially for a bourbon, with grassy light floral stuff, a little dill. Quite sweet palate, fruity and intense, but lacking serious depth. In the finish, a light halo of minty-herbal stuff returns. Despite the lack of complexity it's great and I'd eagerly drink it any day.
