Nose screams massive sherry. Super-rich and extremely inviting. Sweet. Plums, grapes, big figs. I also get wisps of buttered popcorn.

Palate -- yeah wow, pretty much what the nose advertised, and not a trace of anything objectionable in here.  Rather syrupy and all about the sherry, and with a tinge of sweetness that I wouldn't expect at this age. The long finish brings the usual spices, with cocoa stuff, and there actually isn't a whole lot going on here for me… but what is here is excellent and nearly savory. The big scotchy-sherry flavors are fantastic.

Having tried this at length on a few occasions, I've found it's a malt that's easily overshadowed in comparison to, well, almost anything else. Not that other things seem better per se. This just has trouble showing its best aspects in cross-tastings (is that a phrase?) much more so than other malts do. It can seem very one-note. And it sort of is, though it's extremely good at the few things it does.

Leather, incense, tobacco and wood polish. Sherry notes are much more prominant on the palate with woody spices. Finishes with lingering sweet licorice.

N: Very rich, old wood smells, BBQ and pulled pork, smoked meats, apricots.
P: Wowee.   There's something wonderful that happens (sometimes) when whisky sits in a sherry cask this long, it takes on a savory quality that just can't found otherwise.

F: Deep, sweet, resinous, and spicy.
