Nose:  light peat, lumps of coal, some sweet notes.
Palate:  Bang!  Strong peaty goodness, ash, then bananas and sugar cubes.  A solid peat monster.

Tasted blind I was shocked to see how much peat this has maintained over 27 years.  I would have pegged for a 10-15 year old.

Nose of Smokey with light fruits.  Guessed blind that it was a Port Ellen or Caol Ila....seems the profile was coming through. A-

Taste was minty and spicey with that lighter peatiness that makesolder Caol Ilas great. It seems that it also makes older Port Ellens great.  A

Finish was medium and maybe the thing that brought this back down to under a solid A. Warm spices and "SMOOTH".  (I personally hate that term but I wrote it in my notes in quotes anyway) B+

***SIDE NOTE***  This was one of the collector battle malts and I turned in my grades along with my notes for tally.  When I awoke the next morning (after passing out in the theater - I think I poured a bit too generously) and gathered my stuff, I noted an addition to my notes.  Five of the six bottles had comments that were...well...less than flattering.  One of two things occurred.....Either my drunken self wrote these comments without memory and in a handwriting that is less similar to mine than any drunken handwriting I have created before.....OR someone added them to my notes.....several attendees have adamantly denied responsibility and/or pointed the finger at others.....a drunken handwriting test shall be given following the next session to feret out the true vandal.  ;-}

One of those where I don't have a lot to say, I just want to drink it. Every aspect of this thing is permeated by Juicy Fruit gum and peaty, well-balanced smoke. A total winner.

N: Nice spicy gingery peaty nose, with lots of salt and some bready / cakey notes.
P: Wow, a fantastic sweetness on this big peat monster.
F: Big on the palate, but finishes elegantly with some tasty fruit.

n: funky medicine and butterscotch with red hots

p: More red hots.  Sweetened  charcoal.  Love it!
