Nose says hello with lots of sherry and a hint of campfire. Immediately sweet on the palate, which keeps building with rich toffee and maple, into a nice long finish with rolling waves of sherry, syrupy-sweet malt and f'ing goodness with nips of smoke, fruit, and summer flowers. Just enough heat to make me happy. Into my 3rd glass I started thinking, this may be an A+... but that may be because it was the third glass... retasting it as I write, it is a definite: A
NOTE: Tasting this after I'd had more experience under my belt, I don't find it as extremely enjoyable... there's a good amount of sulfur in here that's not bad tasting per se, but it tends to throw things off balance. Still good stuff though. A-
As you might expect, the nose has deep sherry notes. The palate is sweet sherry with a touch of sulfur. There's all kinds of fruit in here: raisins, dark cherries, figs - delicious stuff. The finish is dessert sweet. This is a big old sherry bomb. For a legendary bottling, I didn't find it particularly complex, but it's wonderfully drinkable.
