N: A very earthy and dirty peat (the good kind of dirty). P: As a late, all the peated whiskies I've tried have been one dimensional charcoal smoke bombs. This one breaks the trend. Big oily peat smoke with some unusual organic notes, lots of fruit, and tobacco. F: Hint of grape bubble gum and lavender. The fruity / floral notes in this one really set it apart, great stuff. Almost an A.
Nose of milder smoke and Bazooka bubble gum. The palate -- oh, yum! Fruity, with a silver smoke lining. French vanilla ice cream. Finish is long, with spices emerging, and mint/evergreen in the tails. Light smokes sticks long after. The peat is nicely restrained and excellently balanced against a fruit-custard-tart. Brings you back, and back, and back. A/A-
Nose: sweet and fruity, cherries with light fruit in the background. Palate: Leads with peat, very earthy, syrupy mouthfeel, sweetness and malt come at the end. Finish: Malty
Very faint nose. Floral yet malty with a touch of iodine and corn. Toffees and vanillas on the palate followed by waxy citrus notes. The finish is peated and smoky.
Retaste: 2018 N: Warm buttery nose with a kick of lemon zest. Vanilla oil, dry hay, sea salt, with preserved apricot and pear. Lingering toasted malt, wet cereal and oatmeal on the back end. P: Fresh fruit dominates (lemon skin pear and apple) with mineral and metallic notes at mid palate. Makes me think of graphite, flint and sun baked rocks. F: Lingering peat smoke finish that is a tad on the bitter waxy side B+/A-
